japanese breakfast

a japanese breakfast is usually minimal, subtle and light
it can range from a full meal to a nice open toasted sando
we recommend; start with a juice and finish with coffee

Close Project

authentic japanese food

individual dishes
ordering a few individual dishes allows you to share, offers you more variety
of tastes, and even more than that – can provide a more balanced meal

meal set
a meal set is a great way to try different flavours in the one sitting
all meal sets come with 1 japanese deli salad + miso soup + rice

donburi
a donburi is a dish we make and put on rice if you want to share,
we’ll provide share plates and it’s ok to ask for a fork and spoon

noodles
noodle dishes can be hot or cold and are earthy and warming
the secret is always in the rich soupy broths that take a long time to make
yakumi accessories are extras you add to the dipping sauce like
wasabi and spring onion

FAQ’s about ajitoya

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

do we need to book a table?
great idea, sometimes we’re busy, sometimes we’re quiet, and planning your visit can make for a much better experience overall

call ajitoya to book on 9687 1027

FYI we only take bookings up to 10, and never more than this

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

are you licensed or BYO?
not yet. we are currently under application for a General Liquor License for on premises consumption and packaged takeaway

being a Japanese delicatessen, we don’t plan to be BYO now, or anytime in the future as our specific tastes and flavors are matched to certain drinks

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

will you ever do okonomiyaki ? (aka Japanese cabbage pancake… of sorts)
if you’ve ever been to Japan, you’ll know that an okonomiyaki shop, only serves okonomiyaki, and that’s it
they specialise in one thing and do it well

we have a tiny kitchen, so when/if we do okonomiyaki, we will make a night of it… like ‘okonomiyaki tuesdays‘ or something like that and won’t do our regular menu at all

we’re thinking to start this when the liquor license comes through… that’s one of our goals

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

do you do gluten free?
my mum is coeliac, and so is maya’s dad in Japan – so we know a bit about it and take it pretty seriously
we don’t do a lot of gluten free products but with a days notice, we can usually adapt a few of our dishes to accommodate gluten free requirements

best thing is to call us in advance 9687 1027

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

do you have vegetarian and/or vegan options?
good question. a lot of Japanese dishes use bonito stock (fish stock) so what may appear to be vegetarian or vegan, actually might not be. again, calling in advance or asking us in the shop on the day ‘what is vegetarian or vegan today?’ is always the best way to go

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

do you do sushi?
yes we do. ajitoya sushi is hand-made fresh every morning in another kitchen and not on site anymore. so when we are out of sushi, we’re out

sushi is a such a good lunch time product. it’s fast and easy and super cheap to pick up in those tight lunch breaks. we don’t really do sushi for dinner

we do pack and put sushi aside for customers who call in before 12pm, and they are able to pick it up later when they have time

call ajitoya 9687 1027 before 12pm to book sushi packs

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

do you do catering?
we don’t cater events or anything. but we can make up a variety of sushi platters for different occasions. we usually need a days notice

call ajitoya on 9687 1027 to discuss pricing and options

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

I thought you just did sushi, what else do you do?
we do a lot more than just sushi. we’re here to provide people with authentic Japanese food and can make up meal sets which become bento for takeaway, donburi are dishes we cook and put on rice, various noodle dishes like soba and udon and we also have a small secular menu which is great for sharing with a group of friends

we encourage you to try a variety of *authentic Japanese flavors* and our dishes are home-made Japanese based cuisine

it’s important to note, none of these dishes have been amended or changed for varying western tastes, they are simply a modern day authentic Japanese approach

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

I thought you were a restaurant
we are not a restaurant. we are a Japanese deli, cafe, eatery with the clear focus to provide authentic Japanese flavors

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

sometimes I call to book or for takeaway, but no one answers, why?
yeah that’s right, and we apologise for that. we are a small operation and sometimes we are so busy we can’t answer the phone during busy service times

takeaway orders are very important to us, but we carefully manage that process so it doesn’t push in front of customers who have previously booked or are already sitting in the shop

our intention from the beginning is to operate a very transparent business process. so if there’s a 40 minute wait due to orders building up, we’ll simply tell you

——————————————————————————————————————————————————

how many people can sit at your shop?
16 outside, 20 inside
